Each year the Worcester Firefighters participate in fundraising activities to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Since 2000 the Worcester Fire Department and Local 1009 have raised over $273,000.00 . In 2010 the Worcester Fire Department raised $20,131.00 in support of the MDA through participation in the following activities:

2. MDA Ski Muster - 2009 Total $500.00
This year the Ski Muster was held February 26th at Wachusett Mountain. The WFD came in 4th place missing out on a trophy by .66 seconds.
3. Shamrock Drive - 2010 Total $1,023.00
MDA Shamrocks are sold in the following loactions each year from February 15th to March 17th.

4. Softball Tournament - 2010 Total $1,888.00
Each summer the WFD hosts a softball tournament consisting of teams comprised of teams from throughout New England. Virgilio’s Troops (Combination of Fitchburg and Leominster FD's) were crowned champions after a slug fest against Woonsocket. Portland Fire were great two time champions and should be congratulated for their run of success.
