The Worcester Fire Department is rich in tradition and history. Unfortunately, the tradition of honoring those we have lost in the line of duty has been a piece of history practiced far too often, as it was on Dec. 15 when we honored Firefighter Christopher Roy. Thousands of fire fighters from around the world flooded the streets of the Canal District, business stopped, citizens paused, and the entire community saluted our fallen brother for the sacrifice he made to this city.
The Worcester Fire Department and Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 would like to express our deepest appreciation to this city, its administration, our Worcester Police Department, businesses and citizens for the outpouring of compassion and support as we mourned and honored Christopher Roy.
The patience and understanding of this city allowed our firefighters to pay tribute to Chris in a way he truly deserved and earned. The continued support for the Roy family and especially Chris’s daughter Ava is humbling and gives all of our fire fighters the comfort to know that each day we answer the call, we have the support of this entire community at our backs.
On behalf of all Worcester firefighters and the Roy family, thank you.
President, Worcester Fire Fighters Local 1009
Chief, Worcester Fire Department
